Contact Groups
A group is a saved list of contacts you can send a campaign to. Make one, fill it from your contacts or a file, then pick it as the audience in Text Blaster or a round-robin blast.
How it works
- 1
Create a group
Give it a name, and optionally a description, folder and color.
- 2
Fill it
Add contacts from your list, upload a file, or build one from campaign non-responders.
- 3
Send to it
Pick one or more groups as the recipients of a campaign.
- 4
Keep it tidy
Sort into folders, export to CSV, and delete groups you no longer need.
STEP 01
Create a group
Go to Contacts → Groups and click Create Group. Only Group Name is required.
- Group names must be unique. Statxt tells you if the name is already taken.
- Add a Customer Folder name to file the group with related ones, like a client or a region.
- A group is a fixed list. It changes only when contacts are added or removed.
STEP 02
Add contacts from All Contacts
In the All Contacts list, tick the contacts you want, then click Add to group in the bar that appears and pick a group.
- Use Select all matching to add everyone who fits your current search and filters (up to 5,000 at a time).
- Click Create new group… to make a group from your selection in one go.
- You can also add one contact from its row menu or from its profile panel.
STEP 03
Add contacts or upload a file from the group
Click a group card to open Group Members. Switch to Add to search your contacts or upload a file straight into the group.
- Click Add on a row, or tick several and click Add to group. Up to 500 contacts per save.
- Upload contacts (CSV/XLSX) imports a file and adds everyone to this group. Files must be under 10MB.
- The Group capacity bar shows how close the group is to its 5,000-contact limit.
- In Members, tick contacts and click Remove from group. They stay in your contacts.
STEP 04
Pick groups as a campaign audience
In Campaigns → Text Blaster, open Select contact groups... in the Recipients panel and tick one or more groups.
- Each group shows its size and how many times you’ve blasted it.
- The panel shows your potential recipients and how many DNC contacts were filtered out.
- No group yet? Type a name under Create a new group, or click Upload leads to import a file.
- Round-robin blasts use groups the same way.
STEP 05
Build a group from people who didn’t reply
Click No replies in the Recipients panel to make a group of contacts who were texted in past campaigns and never replied.
- Tick one or more campaigns. Statxt previews how many non-responders it found.
- Contacts who replied are left out, and so are DNC, failed and unsubscribed numbers.
- The new group is saved in the No replies folder and selected as your audience.
- It’s a snapshot. Later replies don’t remove anyone from it.
STEP 06
Organize, export and clean up
Back on the Groups tab, tick group cards to work on several at once.
- Move To Folder files groups under a customer folder. Leave the name blank to take them out of a folder.
- Export Contacts CSV downloads the contacts in the selected groups.
- Delete Groups removes only the groups. The contacts stay in your account.
- Use the Folder, Sort and Times Contacted filters to find groups fast.
Pro tips
Get more out of Contact Groups
Groups vs. tags
Groups choose who a campaign goes to. Tags are labels that help you find people later.
Mind the 5,000 limit
When a group fills up, extra contacts go into a new numbered group, like “Open House RSVPs 2”. Select both when you send.
Import into a group
Pick a group under Assign to Group when you import a file, so new contacts are ready to text right away.
Blast from a selection
Select contacts in All Contacts and click Text blast. Statxt saves them as a new group and opens Text Blaster with it selected.
Use folders
Working for several clients or locations? Give each one a customer folder so its groups stay together.
Deleting is safe for contacts
Deleting a group never deletes the contacts in it. Delete a contact from All Contacts if you need it gone.
Common questions
What is a contact group?
A saved list of contacts you choose as a campaign audience. It changes only when contacts are added or removed, by you, an import, or a feature like No replies.
How many contacts can a group hold?
Up to 5,000. If you add more, Statxt puts the extra contacts into a new group with the same name and a number.
Can I send to more than one group at once?
Yes. Tick as many groups as you need in the Recipients panel. DNC contacts are filtered out before sending.
Can my teammates see and send to my groups?
No. The Groups tab lists the groups you created, and a Text Blaster send goes only to contacts in those groups that you own. Each teammate builds their own groups.
